The developer of the game Life is Strange: True Colors faced a huge wave of layoffs

Deck Nine, the developer of Life is Strange: True Colors, has announced that it will lay off 20% of its workforce.
Deck Nine Studio has been added to the list of companies that have laid off their staff in 2024. The studio had developed titles such as Life is Strange: True Colors and Life is Strange: Before the Storm, and also made The Expanse: A Telltale Game in collaboration with Telltale Games (which had layoffs last year). According to the IGN media report, this studio had close to 100-130 employees, and this means that more than 20% of these people are at risk of being fired.
"Deck Nine Studios, like many others in the video game industry, was affected by poor market conditions," Deck Nine tweeted. Today, we decided to fire 20% of our forces; These guys are fantastic, talented and awesome developers. They have been very influential during their tenure and we have not taken this decision lightly."
Stephen Frost , the director of the game at Deck Nine, claimed that "the head of this studio has reduced his salary as much as possible to reduce the number of layoffs. This Deck Nine team was at their strongest and the current state of the video game industry is very sad."

This 20% reduction in the forces at Deck Nine happened within a year, and an undisclosed number of people were fired from this studio in May of last year. The first two months of 2024 have been very tough in the video game industry, and the number of layoffs in this short period of time is surpassing the number of layoffs in 2023.
Sony's interactive entertainment division recently announced that it is laying off 900 people. Studios such as Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Gorilla, and Firesprite were affected by the layoffs. Sony's London studio has also been completely shut down and development of a number of (rumored) PlayStation exclusive games such as the Twisted Metal reboot has been cancelled, but it seems that Gorilla's multiplayer Horizon has been spared. .
